The School of Media and Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is searching for an outstanding assistant or associate professor to conduct research and teach in its internationally renowned media law and policy program. The program includes faculty who teach law to undergraduate, master's, and Ph.D. students. There also are also dual-degree (M.A./J.D.; Ph.D./J.D.) programs and a vibrant media law center, both collaborations with the UNC School of Law. This is a tenure-track or tenured position. If tenure is proposed for the selected candidate the review for tenure would occur prior to the appointment.
Duties: Conduct significant research in media law and policy. Teach two courses per semester, including undergraduate media law and ethics classes. Also, share the teaching of graduate media law courses and a law class that is part of the curriculum of the School's online master's degree in communication and technology. Participate in and contribute to the activities of the UNC Center for Media Law and Policy. Advise undergraduates and graduate student theses and dissertations, and carry out appropriate service.
Education and Experience:
Evidence of research excellence is required. Research focused on the law and emerging technologies, digital media in the context of intellectual property, privacy, surveillance, and regulation, or contemporary issues relating to press and expressive freedom are strongly preferred. However, other areas of interest and specialization will be considered.
