This is an entry level position working under the direct supervision of a Media Supervisor, Media Lead, or the client. The supervisor and/or users generally schedule the work, specify the equipment needed and provide specific guidelines concerning setup for the program. Media/AV Technicians perform basic setups and assist other Media Technicians, Stage Technicians, and others as instructed on setups and strikes of equipment. They must be able to adapt the setup to accommodate last-minute changes or emergencies. They perform tasks in the shop as assigned by the Lead or Supervisor. Work may be reviewed frequently during progress by the lead, supervisor or user.
Media/AV Technicians at this level (and all levels) must become knowledgeable of the University's and the department's policies and procedures, including safety; and apply that knowledge consistently and appropriately on the job. They must interact professionally, courteously and respectfully with clients, coworkers, faculty and students, and they are expected to provide excellent customer service.
Media/AV Technicians (at this level and all levels) sometimes have to work overtime and on weekends, under time restrictions and with frequent last minute changes. They must be able to work at all hours during the seven day week, including evenings and weekends.
Set up, operate and remove a variety of projection equipment (including overhead projectors, 35mm slide projectors, TV monitors with VHS and DVD players, video projectors with VHS & DVD with sound) and set up projection screens
Setup, operate and remove small systems for speech reinforcement, music playback, cassette recording; powered speakers with microphone and/or music playback
Setup and remove basic lighting equipment, stands, and other lighting support structures. Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance and repair of equipment, especially to correct emergency breakdowns; clean equipment
Instruct clients and demonstrate operation of equipment
Pack, load and deliver equipment
May operate still, television, and motion-picture cameras under close supervision
May recommend type of available equipment best suited to accomplish user's purpose
Perform a variety of related duties; operate lighting equipment; act as stage hand; cleanup sites of events; coordinate or assist in coordination of the physical setup for television classrooms and for programs such as conference and graduation exercises
Perform other tasks as assigned.
