The Department of Fine Arts at Tarleton State University seeks applications for an artist-in-residence. Residency terms will be negotiated upon hire. The selected artist will work directly with the Tarleton State University community on a project that will culminate in an exhibition. The selected artist is expected to be accessible to the Department of Fine Arts community, and to develop a relationship with Digital Media Studies and Art students through workshops, lectures, or talks to be scheduled at the artistâ™s discretion. Applications from both emerging and established artists, national or international are encouraged.
Along with the online application Artist should submit one (1) PDF with the following contents in the following order:
Project Proposal: outlining the goal and description of the intended work; 1-2 pages in length
Portfolio: 10- 20 images of relevant work labelled with title, dates, and media specifics plus other descriptors as relevant or informative
Artist Statement: 1 page maximum
Curriculum Vitae: Please include name, address, telephone #, email address; Please include website URL (where relevant)

Responsibilities: 60% Work directly with Tarleton State University community on a project that will culminate in an exhibition. Produce new artistic works, including art for the Universityâ™s use.
10% Assist staff and administration by designing artwork that promotes university activities.
20% Interact with students in the form of lectures, workshops, open studio time, and visits to classes which includes participation in critiques, and other informal conversations.
5% Show support for student creativity by attending student art shows.
5% Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience/Skills: Experience as an emerging or established professional artist. Demonstrated excellence in artistic endeavors. Demonstrated commitment to the exploration of innovative approaches to fine art. Demonstrated ability to engage with the university community. Recognized reputation in their field. Demonstrated ability to educate students in the professional standards of the field.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills: Artists whose practices are interdisciplinary in nature, especially those whose work incorporates elements of digital media in addition to traditional fine arts disciplines (painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking); and/or Artists who aim to work in tandem with other departments within the university through a hybrid focus (Science, Technology, Engineering, Fashion, Music, Theater, and Agriculture among others).
