Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Instructional Lab Specialist. This position reports to the Director of the Simulation Program at the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, the Simulation Technology User Support Specialist is responsible for the implementation of technologies in the Simulation Program.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Manages the day-to-day operations of the audio/video recording system for scheduling, setting up, and recording of educational events.
In consultation with faculty, schedules simulation sessions to accommodate educational programs.
Maintains and upgrades simulation equipment and systems, including: hardware/software, program writing, troubleshooting, and related multimedia.
Maintains warranty, repairs records, and references materials for simulation equipment, technologies, and related A/V and computer hardware and software; inventory, functionally maintain, track depreciation, and provide security for all equipment and supplies.
Create supply orders for hardware, software, and clinical skills equipment and supplies with approval from the Director of the Simulation Program.
Working with faculty, programs and runs simulation scenarios, including but not limited to: set up/breakdown of equipment, operation of A/V system and simulators, and moulage.
Evaluates new equipment, and identifies opportunities for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education.
Supports the use of digital media and web stream creation for educational and professional distribution.
Assists in the creation and ongoing management of databases.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in biomedical technology field or computer science, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Two years' experience with audio/video equipment and software for recording, duplication.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience working in simulation, objective structured clinical examination (OSCE), or computer applications.
Proficiency in Microsoft software applications, including: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point, Internet, and database use and have the willingness to explore new technologies.
Must be willing to learn simulation-based education technologies, applications, computer hardware equipment and software applications.
Strong technical expertise.
Effective interpersonal relationships and the ability to promote student and program success in a fast-paced team environment.
Highly desirable qualifications include: work experience in healthcare setting; certification in simulator repair and maintenance; experience with simulation technologies ranging from operation of anatomic models and task trainers to full body patient simulators and standardized patients; and expertise with CAE and Gaumard technology.
Experience in simulation-based education in healthcare settings is highly desirable.
Must be able to work independently, problem solve and make decisions using strategic and analytical thinking in a fast paced, flexible work environment.
Will use simulation hardware and software, including Gaumard products and CAE AV systems.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The candidate must be able to stand for extended periods of time, roll heavy equipment into locations for testing, lift models and equipment weighing up to 35 pounds and move/transport equipment weighing up to 150 pounds.
Position requires flexibility regarding scheduled hours, including days, evenings, and weekends.
