Reporting to the Information Technology Service & Support (ITS&S) Director of Media & Design, the Digital Media Services Video Lead (level 79) supervises overall effort for developing and supporting all aspects of the media production: video, still photography, motion graphics, specialty technology. This position is a part of the Northwestern IT Media & Design team which brings together individual strengths and a team attitude to build high quality media projects, from ideation to completion. We provide media production from creative promotional videos to captivating online courses, pedagogical insight, live multi-camera events, photography, and beyond.
In this position, you will lead our team to craft visually striking communication media, to align edits with explicit and implicit messaging, and encourage innovation. Your responsibilities will include leading client coordination, script development, storyboarding, and supervising all editing to craft video and audio projects, aligned with project descriptions and timelines. You will also coordinate the hiring and supervision of Digital Media Specialist 77 & Production Assistant 75 level positions and the free-lance, student and temporary video employees. You will direct the work of the team in line with the mission and values of Northwestern and Northwestern IT S&S, including setting expectations for the work environment, the quality of work that is produced, and the process to produce that work. As a team member, you should cultivate continual growth and improvement as an individual and within the group and the IT organization as a whole.
Leads teamwork with clients and production staff to produce video products for online distribution and webcasting/video streaming. Directs Studio Production including planning and coordinating all aspects of media development in the studio.
Leads digital media staff (75 & 77) in pre-production and production planning activities to plan, script shoot, edit and publish a variety of video content type for educational websites, including Massive Open Online Courses. Directs assigned studio productions.
Direct composers, audio specialists, designers, motion graphics specialists and other contract personnel for post-production needs to meet deadlines for video deliverables, confirm web and interactive media has been successfully delivered by direct client communication
Coordinate and actively guide schedules and budgets for assigned projects to ensure that project goals, process steps, and deliverable are achieved and tracked.
Craft, define and lead performance reviews for Dig. Med. Spec. 75 & 77
Fulfill other tasks as assigned.
Bachelors degree from an established Media, Design or Art University program.
Three to five years experience (Internship, work study or other training work as a video and media specialist)
Demonstrable experience in leading teams of creative video professionals.
Experience in leading staff familiar with the maintenance, preparation, and operation of NUIT camera and audio equipment, including: Panasonic PX270s, Panasonic FS-700, Panasonic AF100, Red Scarlet Dragon, Canon 5D Mark II, Micro-P2 Cards, SD Cards, Sennheiser wireless lavalier microphones, Shotgun microphones, Multichannel mixing boards, Tricaster Live Switcher, Mediasite Recorder, ARRI lights and gels, Celeb & Diva lights, and other equipment in this ever-evolving field
Experience leading staff and knowledge of NLE editing software, including the following programs for post-production utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite: Premiere Pro, Audition, Media Encoder, Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator
Minimum of 3 -5 years experience as a video production manager and director
Ability to evaluate, adapt quickly to and master new technology.
