Networking (Electrical Engineering) San José State University
Subject to Budgetary Approval Job Opening ID (JOID): 23853 Rank: Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) – Two positions Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering or related area by start of appointment. Background and research experience in computer networks and communications at the hardware and protocol levels is required. Preferred areas of specialty include network security, mobile networks, wireless and sensor networks, multimedia networks, and network design and analysis. Applicants with experience in modern applications such as voice-and-video over wireless, digital television, and hardware implementation such as embedded systems, FPGA and ASIC implementation of codes, ultra-low energy wireless sensors, communication system and circuit co-design are preferred. Applicants must have good oral and written communication skills. Applicants should demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Responsibilities: The selected candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate Electrical Engineering courses and provide leadership in updating and developing a modern curriculum in networking and communications emphasizing applications, design and software/hardware implementations. Conduct and guide original research in related areas. Develop laboratories to support teaching and research efforts. Seek external partnerships and collaboration with Silicon Valley and beyond. Work collaboratively with other faculty to integrate the networking area with other related areas such as computer architecture, mixed signals, DSP, ASIC, SoC, and embedded system. Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
