Network Infrastructure and Services (NI&S) provides network, communications, public safety, cable television, and data center services for the faculty, staff and students at Virginia Tech. NI&S is looking for intrinsically motivated individuals to be part of an Agile development team that utilizes test-driven design to build rich internet (web) applications using modern browser-side MVC frameworks and Java EE. Applications developed will need to integrate with existing departmental systems, databases, and directories, using a combination of web services, messaging, and direct SQL/LDAP access.
The successful candidate will work with a team of software developers, engineers, system and application administrators to design and build solutions to support Virginia Tech’s emergency notification system (VT Alerts).

Demonstrated skills in working effectively in a team environment

Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
Demonstrated experience with business process analysis, requirements gathering, or systems analysis.
Demonstrated experience with the development of web applications, automated processes, and/or reports that use a relational database system.
Demonstrated experience using modern development and design methodologies in one or more programming language.
Experience with business processes and applications supporting higher education
Experience using one or more programming languages to perform database queries, modifications, and database transactions
Experience with Oracle SQL and PL/SQL development
Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and/or Agile Development
Experience with object-oriented programming (OOP) and/or object-oriented analysis and design (OOAD)
