The Network Operations Center (NOC) Analyst conducts operational functions and monitors the university’s campus-wide wired and wireless network to ensure a consistently stable computing environment for all students, faculty and staff. The Analyst controls and monitors multiple different network servers and network hardware and software systems in the Data Center. The Analyst provides first level PC hardware and software, telephone, and cable television troubleshooting support for the AU community via telephone and e-mail. This position coordinates activities with OIT units including Technical Support, Network Operations, Communications Services, Network Engineering, and other IT staff to resolve customer technology problems. The Analyst is also responsible for operating and monitoring the University Tape Library system and ensuring its consistent operation. Other tasks required include monitoring of University Enterprise printing system and production of distributable software on CD/DVD. This position requires self-direction and general supervision.
A high school diploma or its equivalent is required. A bachelor’s degree and/or relevant technical certificates are preferred.
Two years work experience in a data center environment
Experience with personal computer hardware, the Windows operating system, and software applications such as Microsoft Office, e-mail, etc. and proficiency with the Internet
Must have knowledge of networking concepts and protocols, routers and switches, wireless equipment, and network servers using operating systems such as NetWare, Solaris, Linux, and Windows
Must have good oral and written communication skills
Must be able to operate all installed equipment and analyze complicated operational related problems
This position is considered to be an “essential employee” during emergency closing periods. Due to the nature of the NOC function, the incumbent must be willing to work during evenings, weekends, and overnight hours. The incumbent must be able to lift materials up to 50 pounds and be willing to work in a noisy environment.
