This position resides within the Media Majlis, the first university museum in Qatar, and the first museum in the Arab world dedicated to the content of media, journalism and communications. The Digital Media Specialist will work with curators to produce exhibitions which will challenge and engage audiences, and will push and question both subject matter, exhibition practices, and uses of digital media. This role will be a critical member of a small international team, and reports to the Museum Director.
Please note: The incumbent must be able to lift up to 20kg or approximately 44lbs.
Responsible for creating two exhibitions annually, which will include interactive, responsive, and online content. This creative work will also be reflected in the display of each exhibition’s physical objects.
Digital content will include born digital and digitized moving image (film, animation, video games, etc.), still image, audio and music, and created content (from exhibition specific interviews, to infographics), among other materials.
Direct and deliver layout and design of content within digital displays, use of sound, interactivity, and compliance with content copyright agreements.
Develops new digital-audience engagements which are both visually inspiring and experimental in storytelling, and in ways of sharing and exhibiting content.

Challenge and push exhibition engagement with audiences.
Collaborates with internal and external entities.
Questions and expands what digital media can do within museum and exhibition environments.
Works with the Media Majlis Registrar on recommendations for digitization processes for physical assets, including off-site digitization, 3D scanning and printing, and subsequent digital storage.
Works with student researchers and Masters placement/internship students as required.
Participates in conferences, publications, public speaking engagements, university-wide projects, and committees.
Contributes to budget creation, tracking and reporting, including recommendations on hard- and software updates, and equipment.
Acts as a liaison with the University’s Production and Digital Media and IT Departments, regarding equipment repair, sourcing, maintenance, and tracking.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or in audio, video, media technology, or comparable field, with emphasis on computerized interactive technology, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Three to five years of experience in exhibition and/or event style video productions systems, media workflow, compression/video streaming technology, or computer-based video production, effects, and post-production.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Demonstrated knowledge of media production software in both Macintosh and Windows environments (Adobe Creative Suite), and Christie (Coolux) Pandoras Box experience.
Creative eye with interest in audience engagement with digital media, informal learning spaces, and desire to create new exhibition environments.
Knowledge of DVB/Mpeg standards.
Strong analytical skills.
Time management/ organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
High level of technical knowledge (e.g. digital production, artifact digitization processes and protocols, technology and visitor interaction).
Experience in a university, and working with faculty and students.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Fluently bilingual (Arabic or French and English).
Work/living experience in Qatar or other Gulf State.
Knowledge of journalism, media and communications in the Gulf region.
