Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research and Learning Services, the Head STEM & Entrepreneurship plays an integral leadership role in the Research and Learning Division shaping library services in support of STEM disciplines and entrepreneurship at Northeastern.
S/he leads a team of research librarians in a program of research support and educational engagement/outreach focused on the Bouve College of Health Sciences, the College of Computer and Information Science (CCIS), the College of Engineering (COS), the College of Science (COS), and the D'Amore-McKim School of Business, and affiliated labs, centers, and institutes. Works in close collaboration with the Head of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities and the Online Learning Program Coordinator to design and implement innovative teaching support, educational programming, and research services delivered online and in person. Pilots and implements direct and indirect assessments to evaluate the reach and impact of liaisons and library services. Engages with users to determine needs and raise awareness around the role the library plays and can play in student success and in contributions to the research enterprise. Works to enhance key programs, initiatives, and partnerships including student and new faculty orientation, developing online learning resources and services, and developing educational programming for Northeastern and the local Boston community. Oversees collection development activities in the STEM and Entrepreneurship Team.
Works internally and externally with campus partners to advance the library's integration into teaching, learning, and scholarship activities, where research librarians serve as conduits for information and actively support digital scholarship, scholarly publishing and research data management initiatives. Primary partners include the Library's Communications team, Information, Delivery, and Access Services Department, Archives and Special Collections Department, Digital Media Commons Recording Studios, the Digital Scholarship Group, including GIS and Data Visualization services, the Research Lifecycle Group, as well as the Office of Institutional Research, Academic Technology Services, and the Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning through Research.
Challenges for this position will be developing and implementing services to support teaching, learning, and research by identifying intersections between STEM and business development endeavors, including processes around developing the commercial/business potential of technology, ideas, and products.
MLS from an ALA accredited program and advanced degree in a STEM discipline, or equivalent professional experience in a STEM field. 3 or more years of increasingly responsible experience in an academic library. Experience with collection development and with library instruction or classroom teaching. Evidence of strong supervisory skills, including the ability to motivate through coaching and leadership. Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment. Excellent organizational, analytical, planning, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills. Strong commitment to diversity. Energetic, innovative, self-motivated, service-oriented, and resourceful. Knowledge of information technologies, instructional and research methodologies, and of trends in academic libraries, scholarly communication, digital scholarship, and higher education. Commitment to staff development.
