List job duties and responsibilities in this section: The Education Training Specialist will be responsible for training, supporting and encouraging faculty, staff and students in successfully putting e-learning software and technology to work. A core responsibility of the position is to engage with teaching and learning providers to understand their unique technology needs and facilitate the development, supervision and delivery of a comprehensive training catalogue of online and group-based training. In addition, this position will assist faculty, curriculum/course designers and program administrators identify, analyze and for use in developing effective course materials and activities for face-to-face and online courses, and keep those materials dynamic with new technological developments and adapt to program pedagogy.
As part of the Teaching and Learning unit of Education Computing, this position requires the necessary people skills to interact with faculty, medical doctors, staff, students and other stakeholders. The Education Training Specialist will work with many programs and departments within the Harvard Medical School (Program in Medical Education, Graduate Education, and External Education) and coordinate with central administration departments at Harvard University. Very strong focus on teamwork is required and is a highly desirable quality.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for the planning, design, execution, and delivery of various online and group training modules and sessions for a suite of teaching and learning, academic support, and digital media software. This includes defining learning objectives, assessment criteria, storyboarding, and modeling content to suit the delivery method and audience.
Design, develop and update software training and knowledge base materials/documentation on proprietary and packaged software, including workshops, online resources and on-demand video tutorials
Assist faculty in developing e-learning modules using a variety of education technology tools and products, including Canvas LMS, MyMediaSite, ScreenFlow, Camtasia, Articulate Storyline, and similar software.
Conduct and assess training needs for several levels of users and regular customer service evaluations of internal support and services.
Work directly with technology staff and vendors to gain technical information on the software we deliver to ensure smooth roll-outs and technology adoption
Provide and coordinate instructional technology related on-demand end-user support and troubleshooting to faculty, staff and students via walk-ins, help desk calls, email, etc.
Assist faculty, curriculum/course designers and program administrators identify, analyze and develop effective course materials and activities in on campus and online courses through the learning platforms, related web technologies and other teaching & learning tools, as needed
Collaborates with other IT staff to diagnose and troubleshoot existing problems, improve support and increase user satisfaction
Discover and advise on process improvement and best-practices in technology use and curricular design
Investigate emerging trends and resources in educational technology and recommend improvements to the set of tools and participate in planning and rollout for its effective use among end users
Ability to work under general supervision with independent action
Ability to handle ambiguous situations with patience, while providing excellent customer service in occasionally stressful settings
Be able to make choices that have critical impact on the faculty's ability to deliver medical education
Demonstrated ability to maintain an expertise in the T&L tools such as Canvas, etc;
Demonstrated ability to provide expert consulting and maintain documentation and processes diagrams

Bachelor's degree and four or more years of software training experience, both online and in-person. Experience with developing teaching and learning technology training. Experience consulting with faculty and staff on the application of technology and pedagogy to learning objectives of software training experience, both online and in person
Master's preferred with emphasis on communication, instructional technology, educational technology or equivalent. Working knowledge of instructional design theories and frameworks. Candidate should have demonstrable proven success in the development, implementation, and ongoing upkeep of a systematic training curriculum an catalogue for technology-related systems. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and an enthusiasm and empathy for those who struggle to acquire technological learning/teaching competencies. Proficiency with commercial learning platforms (preferably Canvas), collaboration tools (ex: web conferencing systems, blogs, wikis), related educational technologies (audience response, lecture capture, survey tools) and computer platforms is highly preferred. Proficiency creating multimedia content and other learning modules using authoring tools (eg: Captivate, Camtasia, etc) is required. Prior experience in instructional design, as well as familiarity working within a hospital/healthcare environment, is desirable.
