Hofstra University's Department of Drama and Dance is seeking an Assistant Professor of Dance to direct the Dance Education Program, and to teach in both the Dance Education and the Dance Programs. This is a one-semester position beginning September 1, 2018, with the possibility of it being extended for an additional semester. Responsibilities include administration of the Dance Education Program, advisement, recruitment, placement of the students for observations and student teaching in schools in Long Island and New York City, helping prepare students for New York State certification and serving as a liaison with the School of Education. The successful candidate will also teach 9 credits chosen from courses in dance education, student teaching supervision, jazz, tap, beginning/intermediate ballet and modern dance.
Hofstra University's Department of Drama and Dance program provides students with the opportunity to develop and hone their skills as performers, designers and technicians, and deepen their appreciation for these arts as they gain practical experience to pursue careers in the theater, dance and beyond. Many graduates have gone on to success in film, television, on Broadway and off-Broadway and as members or founders of renowned dance companies. The department presents six plays and two dance concerts per year, including our Shakespeare Festival, now in it's 68th year. Facilities include the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, a large proscenium theater that seats more than 1,100, and the 200-seat Joan & Donald Schaeffer Black Box Theater.
