Reporting to the IT Manager, Multimedia Services, The Online Learning Production Supervisor will plan, coordinate and oversee all audio and video productions for the Bloomberg School of Public Health's online learning services.
The Supervisor serves as a liaison between the Multimedia Team, other areas within the University and external contacts in the service of supporting the online learning initiatives. This position is expected to be highly proactive, demonstrate the ability to work independently and maximize workflow efficiency to meet deadlines. Must be capable of developing and motivating team members to achieve goals and grow relationships with partners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Online Learning Production Support and Supervision:
Supervise a team of technicians who capture, edit, broadcast and publish audio/visual material in support of Online Learning activities. Provide leadership to ensure that a cohesive, client-focused team effort is applied to operations.
Recruit, screen, hire, train, schedule and oversee all assignment of work to staff. Manage team workflow to meet agreed upon deadlines, balancing production requirements against live event support needs. Evaluate staff and provide feedback, counseling or disciplining as needed.
Develop and document clear support processes to meet department service goals; train staff in the execution of those processes.
Direct staff in the set-up and operation of multimedia technical systems in support of live and pre-recorded Online Learning productions. Oversee the design, set-up, maintenance of studio facilities, in addition to field production setups for Online Learning productions.
Identify staff training needs to ensure effective and efficient use of multimedia systems technology (services, hardware and software) for all provided services. Develop unit goals and provide on-going team and individual coaching.
Oversee help desk ticketing request processes. Assign tasks to ensure balanced workload assignments, efficient work flows and accurate billing for services. Monitor tickets for regular, detailed work updates by staff.
Prepare and analyze team metrics, preparing reports on performance. Develop plans for improvement and collaborate with Multimedia Manager on implementation. Regularly review Online Learning team services and customer requests to ensure demand, processes and service options are meeting needs and appropriate resources are available.
Provide material for services reports. Review and update web portal content to reflect related service offerings and request processes.
Serve as primary point of contact with Online Learning staff with regard to the research, planning, development and execution of audio/visual projects in support of Online Learning activities.
Consult with Online Learning Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) (online course designers, producers and faculty) to understand the requirements, goals and pedagogical value of online course content, in support of the development of appropriate multimedia content.
Perform technical assessment, creative application and administrative work involved in the planning, production, formatting and publishing online learning multimedia content. Utilizing creative and technical knowledge, work with SMEs in the development of supplemental online learning audio/visual material such as classroom recordings, videos, podcasts and other content using emerging technologies.
Collaborate with SMEs regarding changes and enhancements to improve the clarity and quality of the project. Draw on creative and technical experience to guide talent in best practices for effective audio/visual presentations. Provide consultative services for faculty, staff and students in the use of supporting multimedia technology to provide the best learning experience.
Provide multimedia technology support, e.g., audiovisual, digital media, satellite communications, web cast, video conferencing for Online Learning productions and other special, live events as necessary.
Participate in research and planning for improvements to multimedia infrastructure. Provide recommendations for upgrade or replacement of multimedia systems.
Oversee the inventory and archiving of all Online Learning related jobs: shoots, recordings, productions, edits and multimedia presentations in support of Online Learning productions.
Analyzes Online Learning production team needs and evaluates new equipment. Recommends testing and purchases based on thorough technology reviews and research findings.
Test and pilot multimedia equipment to support Online Learning capture initiatives and content editing. Coordinate the introduction and installation of systems, develops processes for system usage and answers questions regarding their proper use.
Maintains currency on latest products and technologies by reading trade publications, attending seminars and developing and maintaining vendor contacts.
May assist with special events and projects, providing A/V and multimedia expertise, performing other duties as assigned or requested.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Three years of related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
Some Supervisory/Lead experience.

Requires the ability to bend, push, lift and assemble equipment of approximately 50 lbs.
