The Department of Media and Communication at East Tennessee State University seeks a full-time Assistant Engineer to begin July 2018. Media and Communication is a professional and academic program that is hands-on and demands significant interaction with students. The department operates a student-run radio station, THEEDGE, and a TV Station, Buc-TV and other experiential learning environments. The Assistant Engineer is responsible for installing, maintaining, operating, and documenting all broadcast related systems and equipment to meet Federal Communication Commission (FCC) rules and regulations and any other applicable regulations to also include standards set by the Department of Media and Communication. Equipment to maintain includes but is not limited to: High Definition and 4K video cameras, still image cameras, video switchers, video servers, video and audio routers, linear and non-linear editing systems, Macintosh, Linux, and PC computer systems, digital and analog audio consoles, network switches, fiber transceivers and switches, satellite reception systems and any other broadcast and instructional related equipment used in the instruction of technology related to the emerging media industry. AAS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Entertainment Technology, Media and Communication or closely related field. Experience in broadcast television maintenance, television production, Sports programming production, cable TV broadcast maintenance, or equivalent of education and experience. Ability to change priorities and handle last minute changes as need dictate. Knowledge of analog and digital production technology, satellite RF technology and reception methods, data networks, servers, archive systems, distribution systems, analog and digital SD and HD SMPTE standards including streaming media data formats. Knowledge of Apple OS 10.x Time-management, written and interpersonal skills. Must have a valid Tennessee driver's license. This is not a telecommute position.
