The Installation Technician is responsible for the installation and maintenance of customer services at the home/business. This position will supervise and perform quality control of installation contractors.
Responsibilities & Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for installation, termination and testing of cat-5/6 and coaxial cables.
Responsible for routing fiber and/or cables from the outside to the inside of a home/business.
Supports the customers’ audio and video technologies.
Uses interpersonal skills for interaction with customers for installation requirements and issue resolution.
Provides oversight and performs quality control of the work performed by the internal drop contractors. Confers with and assists contractors as needed.
Installs telephones in homes and businesses and integrates into existing systems.
Works with electronic maps and documents and maintains records of the work performed.
Trains customers on the use of internet, telephone and/or television.
Works with Member Services on subscriber and landowner issues to ensure contractors are performing work on schedule and all issues assigned have resolution.
Provides updates on all installations performed to GIS Mapping Technician to maintain the integrity of our electronic mapping system.
Abides by NAEC and NEXT Confidentiality Agreement.
Ensures operations comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Promotes and maintains a safe working environment, observes all safety rules, and supports the Mission Statement and Core Values in carrying out the responsibilities of the position.
Supports and keeps abreast of bylaws, guidelines, policies/procedures and philosophies of the parent cooperative in an effort to effectively serve and support members and subscribers.
Performs other duties as assigned in order to fulfill the objectives of NEXT.
Position requires sitting to complete work with a computer and telephone. Walking and standing are required, as well as occasional lifting and/or carrying various equipment (exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.) Visual and audio acuity is essential.
Position requires the operation of company vehicles in a safe manner.
Irregular hours are required. Frequent daytime travel and occasional overnight travel across the entire service territory for installation inspection and subscriber/landowner issues.
Reports to: Outside Plant Manager
Directs: Oversees direction of assigned installation contractors working on the system at any given time.
Regularly confers with NEXT employees and works collaboratively with other departments within the parent cooperative as needed.
Maintains great relations with vendors, contractors, subscribers, customers, and the general public in carrying out the responsibilities of this position while maintaining the integrity of NEXT and NAEC.
The Installation Technician is a non-exempt position.

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Some college or post high education preferred.
Must be experienced Cat 5/6 and Coax.
Experienced with home networking equipment.
Experience in home construction/remodeling preferred.
Must have strong PC abilities including MS Office, tablet operating skills and electronic maps.
Must be able to route lines to required specifications and convey these specifications to installation contractors.
Proven ability to multi-task to meet deadlines, will a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work as a team player.
