Assist senior technicians in install, maintain, and repair of voice, data, CATV, fiber optic, uninterruptable power supplies (UPS), Distributed Antenna System (DAS), video network systems and other related network technologies. May also configure, troubleshoot, and repair voice, data, coaxial lines, fiber optic, video circuits, and switches. Assist senior network technician with data center network-related work requests; perform project review prior to implementation and during project execution to ensure adherence to technical specifications and low voltage structured wiring standards. Specifications are provided to employee for applications/tasks when appropriate. Troubleshooting may be performed on-site or through a network monitoring/diagnostic tool(s). More complex network problems are escalated to higher level networking analysts or specialists or vendors for resolution. Technician performs a wide variety of IT responsibilities and must adhere to the infrastructure standards of the University.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists senior technicians with departmental planning and implementation of systems and services in the data center and other critical facilities. Works with senior technicians to perform and coordinate data center moves, adds, and changes.
Assists senior technicians with logging and auditing of all department facility access control systems; works with appropriate individuals to ensure all card access systems are programmed and audited on a regular basis.
Assists senior technicians with installing, terminating, testing, fusion splicing and cross-connecting voice, data, coaxial, fiber and video cabling. Ensures that applicable structured low voltage wiring standards are followed and cable management systems are updated.
Supports/maintains the campus wide copper plant; performs underground cable locates and updates GIS accordingly; assists senior technicians with support and maintenance of campus cable television (CATV) plant, including performing moves, adds and changes.
Assists senior technicians with performing department’s facilities and spaces quality assurance inspections; maintains detailed records of all facility maintenance, repair and site monitoring; coordinates and schedules all data center preventative maintenance and emergency repairs with vendors and contractors.
Assists senior technicians support/maintain campus wide UPS units in all telecom rooms.
Assists senior technicians with troubleshooting campus wide DAS system connectivity issues.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Associate’s degree in computer science or related field of 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Technical Knowledge: Understands the integration of operating systems and platforms; has an understanding of the individual components and of their relationship in data network design; proficient in the operation and relationship of network hardware and software; ability to understand functional system integration issues; understands technology components (not just based on script) to diagnose routine problems; ability to spot trends in reoccurring problems and assist in developing solutions
Technical Solution Development: Ability to implement solutions of medium complexity and follow standard operating procedures
Technical Support: Ability to independently resolve routine and problems within areas of responsibilities; ability to troubleshoot problems by probing users for information relevant to solving problem; ability to perform limited diagnostics on assigned software and hardware.
The hiring range for this position is $20.77 - $26.46 per hour.
