Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for the College of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences and the daily oversight of the chair of the Cinematic Arts and Technology, the Film and Digital Media Technician supports the department’s technical services and manages Film and Digital Media (FDM) equipment and facilities. ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
In consultation with the chair and the Media Production Specialist III, coordinates the daily operations and provides support for the Cinematic Arts and Technology Department’s technical functions and services, including assisting and coordinating faculty and students’ use of media production and post-production technology, coordinating student and faculty use of the department’s studios and media labs, providing audio-visual technology support and assistance for events, and a variety of production and post-production activities, including but not limited to obtaining equipment, testing and setting up equipment, maintaining files on audio-visual materials, managing digital media files and utilizing specialized software. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with faculty, other staff members and students.
Provides assistance and troubleshooting of technical hardware and software issues to students during scheduled lab hours. Provides technical support to students working on production and post-production projects. Provides back up for Cinematic Arts staff.
Schedules, manages and maintains all studio and lab spaces, facilities and related equipment. Tests, troubleshoots, maintains or repairs equipment. Contacts and schedules technicians when necessary.
Implements and executes procedures and policies related to department space and equipment. Provides training and oversight of safety measures and ensures compliance with codes and regulations.
Analyzes and develops proposals for future technical equipment, space and budget needs.
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
Entry to the first level within this classification requires a basic knowledge of and skill in graphics, still or motion photography, or television production. This knowledge and skill normally is obtained through a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least six months of experience in still and motion picture photography, including a thorough knowledge of video production techniques.

The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
This position will have a duty to report to the Campus Title IX Officer information pertaining to victims of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, dating/domestic violence, and stalking as required by CSU Executive Order 1095.
This position has been designated as a sensitive position with:
responsibility for the care, safety and security of people (including children and minors), animals and CSU property;
responsibility or access/possession of building master or sub-master keys for building access;
responsibility for operating commercial vehicles, machinery or equipment that could pose environmental hazards or cause injury, illness, or death.
This position is required to comply with confidentiality requirements outlined in the Department of Education’s Family Educational Rights and Privacy and California’s Educational Code Chapter 13 regarding sensitive student issues.
Required hours are from 1:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. May require occasional weekend work.
Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. Position requires full range of motion and variety of movements necessary to perform labor, including lifting and moving moderate sized equipment up to 50 pounds. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
Compensation and Benefits:
