Established in 1969, Ramapo College offers bachelor’s degrees in the arts, business, humanities, social sciences and the sciences, as well as in professional studies, which include business, elementary education, nursing and social work. The Graduate Residence Director/Graduate Coordinator of Desk Attendants has the responsibility for a campus residence hall and supervision of undergraduate paraprofessional staff, as well as the overall responsibility for the campus desk attendant program. This position is expected to support the mission of the residence life department as well as the College by being a role model to staff and students, supporting college programs and services, enforcing college policies and procedures, providing leadership during crisis situations and managing the daily operations of their assigned area.
Student Related Duties and Responsibilities:
Works to create community within the assigned residence hall
Interacts with residents and makes him/herself readily available to all students
Provides consultations and referrals to students with academic, behavioral, emotional or physical concerns, as needed
Be aware of college resources to refer students with academic, career and personal concerns.
Models appropriate behavior and confronts inappropriate behavior of residents
Enforces college and residence life policies
Mediates student conflicts
Staff Related Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in the supervision of paraprofessional staff in performance of their duties
Responsible for the overall supervision of Desk Managers and Desk Attendants
Responsible for ongoing staff development of the para-professional staff
Responsible for creating a staff team that supports and encourages teamwork and mutual respect
Assists with the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of RA staff as needed
Provides ongoing feedback to DA & RA staff regarding their personal and professional development
Provides emotional support and motivation for staff members
Conducts weekly staff meetings and individual meetings with RA staff & DA managers
Conducts bi-monthly staff meetings with Desk Attendant Staff
Provides leadership during crisis situations
Administrative Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the daily schedule for Desk Managers and Desk Attendants
Oversee budget allocation for the Desk Attendant Program
Approve timesheets/and all student employment hire paperwork
Assist with the staff selection process for Desk Attendants
Set up and break down Desk Attendant Offices within the Residence Halls; insuring offices have proper supplies
Maintains weekly scheduled (25) office hours a week (break times are to be scheduled separately). 15 of the 25 weekly hours should be dedicated to the Desk Attendant program
Performs administrative tasks delegated by the Area Director/supervisors
Assists the Area Director in opening and closing of the assigned residence area
Serves as a student conduct hearing officer for minor discipline cases
Assists the Area Director in the supervision and coordination of bimonthly room inspections
Keeps communication with student staff as their direct supervisor and holds them accountable
Assists the Area Director in keeping complete and accurate information of all residents including building/area rosters
Reports needed maintenance and building repairs
Maintains an accurate key inventory (including peg system, office keys with staff (other keys where applicable)
Relationship with Area Director
Meets regularly with Area Director/supervisor
Keeps Area Director/supervisor informed of any issues and/or student concerns
Monitors floor and building related issues and reports them to Area Director/supervisor
Maintains open communication with Area Director/supervisor regarding the area of responsibility
Relates with other offices
Collaborates with Public Safety, Facilities, and Housekeeping personnel to assure proper residence hall and office operations
Works with Public Safety to educate students on safety and security
Participates in an on-call duty rotation
Manages other duties as assigned by Area Director/supervisors
Bachelor's degree required
Enrolled in a local institution's graduate level program (including, optionally, Ramapo College)
Strong supervisory skills
Previous residence life or campus leadership experience
Previous administrative experience
Previous experience with Desk Attendant/Residence Hall operations preferred
Must live in provided on campus apartment
