Department: Media Arts, Sciences & Studies Employment Category: Fulltime-Regular Position/Job Summary: The Media Arts, Studies, and Sciences Department (MASS) in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College (located in Ithaca, NY) invites applications for a tenure-eligible Assistant Professor position in television and video production— including digital producing and post-production— to begin August 16, 2019. We are seeking candidates that will bring to our program professional industry experience, preferably at the national level, and a deep desire to teach the next generation of media professionals. The MASS department is the largest department on campus and has over 1,000 majors enrolled across six different programs. The Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College is acknowledged as one of the top comprehensive schools of communications in the nation, offering 10 undergraduate and 2 graduate degrees that enroll over 1800 students. Our 57 full-time and 30 part-time faculty are dedicated to teaching excellence, but also maintain active profiles as scholars, media-makers, curators, consultants, and writers. Our facilities include two broadcast studios, a sound stage, state-of-the-art post-production system, cameras and support ranging across 16mm and 4k cinema production; the facilities are supported by a professional staff of 16 engineers, technicians, and facility managers. Our school also offers semester-long programs centered on internships in Los Angeles and New York City and Ithaca College maintains a campus in London where students are also able to intern. This position will primarily serve students enrolled in the Television Program, but students in the Sports Media; Documentary Studies & Production; Writing for Film, TV, and Emerging Media; and Emerging Media programs will also be in the classes. The candidate will be expected to teach foundation-level television production courses (single camera/field) through advanced, senior-level television production courses related to one’s own expertise. The ideal candidate will be equipped to create an environment that encourages student learning, will have a demonstrated record of professional accomplishment, and will bring additional visibility to the program. Faculty in the Park School are required to teach 21 credits per year, to serve as academic advisors for our students, and to serve on academic committees at the program, department, school, and college levels. Tenure-eligible faculty are expected to engage in peer-reviewed scholarly and/or creative work. The successful candidate will also demonstrate an ability to teach in ways that value the varied learning needs and interests of a culturally diverse student population, and that reflect a commitment to encouraging the success of all students. We also seek candidates who have relevant experience and/or a record of professional engagement with groups and communities underrepresented in the academy.
