The Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI) is an inter-faculty initiative with the mission to advance the science and practice of humanitarian response worldwide through research and education. Founded in 2005 and based in the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, HHI serves as the humanitarian arm of Harvard University and brings an interdisciplinary approach to building the evidence base of humanitarian studies and professionalizing the field of humanitarian aid.
Building a Better Response is a program of the Humanitarian Academy at Harvard at HHI. Funded through a grant from the United States Agency for International Development, the Building a Better Response program aims to strengthen non-governmental organization (NGO) engagement in the humanitarian assistance architecture by providing training and engagement to national and international NGOs on policy and practice. HHI is partnering with two prominent humanitarian non-governmental organizations, the International Medical Corps and Concern Worldwide, on this project. The program began implementation in February 2012.
Reporting to the Interim Executive Director, Susan Tannehill, the Media Production Specialist will design and deliver high quality educational videos for online learning coursework. The successful candidate will work closely with the Program Delivery Manager to conceptualize the content and other graphic/video design elements using instructional design frameworks in order to produce engaging online courses consisting of e-learning lessons, course trailers, and mini-educational documentaries.
Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Post-production video editing of Seasons 1-3 of the Field Perspectives Series for Building a Better Response, a filmed one-on-one interview-style practitioner series which showcases humanitarian practitioners' knowledge, experiences, and teaching points for students interested in taking the Building a Better Response e-learning course or who are interested in learning more about the humanitarian sector
Producing Season 4 of Field Perspectives for Building a Better Response, which is comprised of eight new lesson videos, 3-5 minutes in length
Assisting with interviews, performing post-production editing and finalizing of all graphical design elements using Adobe Suite
Filming A Roll and B Roll footage and any additional audio footage to complement video lessons
Creating post-production design elements of the videos, graphics, images, color correction, audio correction and other special effects if necessary
Uploading, managing and monitoring the videos on Youtube, Canvas, Moodle and any other websites, learning management systems or social media platforms HHI uses to distribute it's content, including removing videos and moderating comments
Staying abreast of current best practices and trends in educational media and within higher education
Collaborating with educators, researchers, administrators, students, and humanitarian professionals in the planning and execution of projects to the fullest possible satisfaction of all key stakeholders
Other related duties as assigned

5+ years of related experience, in film or video editing, educational media, online education, and/or documentaries, required; a combination of education and experience may be considered
Experience with Adobe Suite (such as Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Captivate, and/or Adobe Photoshop) required
Bachelor's degree in film, graphic design, digital media design, digital education, or related field strongly preferred
Experience with Aftereffects, website management, and basic HTML preferred
Experience with Articulate Storyline preferred
Experience in website administration and/or learning management systems preferred
Familiarity with time management software and project management techniques preferred
Experience in project management, estimating, and scheduling in a multi-media environment, and bringing teams from project initiation to launch preferred
Strong project coordination and time management skills preferred
Strong writing and communication skills, including around timelines and deadlines, preferred
Experience working independently and communicating openly with other project staff preferred
