The Department of Communications at the University of Tennessee is accepting applications for the position of Senior Broadcast Engineer. This position provides broadcast engineering support for WUTM-FM and the departmental television facilities. In addition, this position provides technical support for the departmental classroom and lab facilities and provides assistance to the faculty in the design, installation, maintenance and documentation of new or replacement equipment within the department.
Job duties for this position include periodic and preventive maintenance, installation, troubleshooting and repair or replacement of television, radio and classroom audio-visual equipment. As Chief Operator for WUTM-FM, the engineer is responsible for the technical operation of the radio station and ensuring the station is in compliance with all FCC regulations. Duties of the Chief Operator include, but are not limited to, the inspection and calibration of the transmission system and required monitoring of the on-air signal and tower.
The engineer works closely with the faculty and students on various productions, class projects or other duties as required. The individual must be flexible and work well with others in the often stressful and demanding area of live broadcast production. The position may require them to be on-call during nights or weekends to address technical problems or interruptions to the WUTM-FM on-air signal.
