The Director of Teaching Excellence and Digital Pedagogy leads the instructional design processes and administers the online and hybrid components of the university by facilitating technology-rich teaching and learning through faculty training and development. This position will provide leadership, vision, scope and advocacy for a variety of educational technology initiatives to support teaching and learning. Additionally, this position supports the overall development of classroom teaching and learning through the implementation of innovative pedagogical techniques and approaches, faculty mentoring and coaching. The position is consistent with the university StratOp priority to nurture innovation in academics and in teaching, and complements the role of the Senior Director for IFD to support the professional development of the faculty and to foster a climate of innovation in teaching and learning.
Promote the integration of technology into the educational environments of the university.
Provide leadership and innovation for enhancing teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational methods and approaches.
Provide administration for online programs and support for the faculty teaching in this medium.
Work collaboratively and effectively with faculty throughout the university to provide pedagogical and technical consulting and training to design, develop, and implement instructional content, courses and projects that enrich teaching and learning through the use of technology in online, hybrid, and traditional courses.
Collaborate with Administration, the Information Technology department, department chairs, and others within the university to strengthen and support classroom teaching and learning, and to integrate innovative pedagogy and technology into the educational areas of the university.
Provide coaching and training for faculty and academic staff for educational technology to improve learning outcomes, facilitate technology-integrated teaching, advance curricular improvements, and assessment management systems.
Contribute to the plans for Professional Development to allow for regular faculty training opportunities.
Engage the faculty in the exploration, discussion, and assessment of innovative pedagogy and educational technology.
Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging technologies and new potentials in educational technology that may be adopted as new and emerging instructional media, technologies, pedagogies and practices.
Explore digital badges as a means for acknowledging professional development achievements by faculty, as well as for micro-credential and compliance reasons for students.
Contribute to plans for designing and redesigning learning spaces at Vanguard. Stay current on effective practices and make recommendations to decision makers as new spaces are created or existing classrooms are redesigned.
Coordinate with the Information Technology department to ensure adequate technology infrastructure to meet the goals of technology-enhanced curricula.
Participate in policy and planning committees and meetings, including the Faculty Development Committee and other relevant groups.
Develop and implement 3 to 5-year educational technology strategic plan, annual goals and objectives, and an annual budget.
Collaborate with the Advancement staff and Academic Writing and Research Office in writing Educational Technology grant proposals.
Annually report to the Provost the accomplishments, effectiveness and outcomes of educational technology.
Identify risks to the organization within the department and discuss risk reduction options with immediate supervisor.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Terminal degree preferred or Master of Arts from an accredited college or university in Technology and Education or related field.
Must have an understanding of the crucial role academic technologies play in higher education with respect to increasing student access, engagement, and success.
Knowledge of current issues and best practices for online learning in general and in higher education in particular.
Significant knowledge of and experience with current learning management systems, assessment management systems, and other instructional technologies.
Experience in designing and developing instructor-led, web-based, and digital media instruction in higher education.
Experience providing innovative pedagogical and technical consulting for the design, development, and implementation of instructional content, courses and projects, at the assistant director level or above.
Experience in facilitating and leading educators in the integration of innovative pedagogy and technology into the educational environments.
Experience in the administration of online courses and the support of faculty teaching these types of courses.
Demonstrated organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple and complex assignments/projects and maintaining records.
Demonstrated effective supervisory, interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to work independently with little direction.
