Position Description: Reporting to the Director of Arts, Music, and Powell Libraries, the Instructional Design and Technology Consultant (IDT Consultant) collaborates with Arts, Music, and Powell colleagues, the Teaching and Learning Functional Team, and across UCLA Library, with campus partners and instructors, and directly with students to create fully-scaled, sustainable solutions to foundational challenges in the research, writing, and creative process using a wide range of online learning tools and platforms. The IDT Consultant follows an engaged instructional design process to design, develop, maintain, and iteratively improve online learning and web page resources in support of research, teaching, and learning. These resources include UCLA Library's Online Learning Toolbox, online learning modules hosted in the Common Collaboration and Learning Environment (CCLE), the UCLA Library and Powell Library web presence, and other emerging web platforms. The IDT Consultant provides training and support for staff across UCLA Library interested in developing their instructional design and learning technology skills, and supports the production of online learning resources by a wide variety of staff. The IDT Consultant is a Lead Site Editor and as such, generates original web content and leverages text, images, and video to support the Library's web content strategy and continually improve the Library's online user experience. As Lead Site Editor, the IDT Consultant provides support to Basic Editors, assists with training, and ensures that best practices are followed for the Library website. The IDT Consultant contributes to outreach through coordination of Powell Library's social media accounts.
The IDT Consultant collaborates closely with Campus Library Instructional Commuting (CLICC)/Digital Initiative and Instructional Technology (DIIT), and other library units to take a proactive role in identifying, implementing, and evaluating learning space and technology solutions and policies in a complex and changeful teaching and learning environment. The IDT Consultant provides technology and operational support for learning spaces throughout Powell Library, including the Inquiry Labs, Inquiry Space, Reading Room, and Rotunda.
User Engagement (UE) unites public services librarians and staff across three major divisions (Sciences; Arts, Music, and Powell; and Management/Humanities and Social Sciences) and sour functional teams (Collections; Outreach; Research; and Teaching and Learning). The UE group is a matrixed organization designed to enhance library services through a cross-disciplinary and cross-functional approach.
The Arts, Music, and Powell division brings together librarians and staff from three library locations. The unit supports research and teaching in a wide variety of subjects and at all levels, including specialized collections and services for art, architecture, theater, film and television, music, musicology, and ethnomusicology. Powell Library collaborates with campus partners focusing on undergraduate education initiatives, which build foundational research and writing skills in student scholars. The team consists of 11 FTE librarians and 3 FTE library assistants.
