Job Summary/Purpose: To provide instruction, or lab instructional within the veterinarian technician program in accordance with the standards established by the American Veterinary Medical Association. This individual must demonstrate a potential for excellent classroom and lab instruction, including curriculum development and evaluation of student performance in the classroom. This individual will work directly with the program director and case manager to align coursework with program requirements.
Essential Functions: Direct Teaching
Provide instruction for veterinary technician students in the lecture and laboratory settings.
Prepare laboratory environments for instruction by assembling necessary resources.
Assist with facilitation of demonstrations, observation, and evaluation of student essential skills performance.
Remain current in the field of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Technician and/or Veterinary Technician Education through a variety of professional activities.
Plan and Design of Courses
Support department staff with copying class materials, stapling, and hole-punching; sort papers and/or supplies.
Maintain records of activities undertaken in the laboratory which may include typing forms, inputting data or otherwise retaining information regarding students and their progress in meeting instructional goals.
Perform other essential job functions as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Thorough knowledge in the field of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Technician and/or Veterinary Technician Training and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge. .
Clinical experience with both large and small animals.
Commitment to compliance for all students enrolled in the program requiring ADA accommodations
Knowledge and vision of the Certified Veterinary Technician's role in the veterinary profession.
Experience working with Certified Veterinary Technicians in a clinical, research, and/or academic setting.
Knowledge of teaching and instruction of adult learners, various audiences and group dynamics.
Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructors to observe, direct, and supervise students in laboratory situations.
Ability to effectively use Microsoft platform desktop computer and various software including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer controlled mixed media presentations.
Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
Ability to work with Corporate & Community Education staff at all levels.
Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
Ability to competently advise and/or serve students from a variety of background, respecting cultural and socio-economic differences.
Current Massachusetts License Veterinarian or Certified Veterinary Technician by the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Examining Board (by the time of hire).
If not a licensed Veterinarian, must have an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology or Veterinary Technician from an accredited institution and have passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam ( VTNE ) and be a credentialed Veterinary Technician.
Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a licensed Veterinarian or Certified Veterinary Technician with the handling and management of animals.
Possess strong human relations skills and abilities to effectively relate to diverse personalities.
Read, understand and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
Be a creative, energetic, and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.
Experience and comfort in communicating with adults from other nations, cultures and ethnic groups.
Compensation: Veterinarian Assistant rate will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Date of Hire: Rolling basis, as needed
