The Office of Academic Innovation is seeking a qualified Media Designer to develop content in support of online educational experiences. This position is a creative one, working within a team environment to design and create video content. And it is also a position that requires a timely and efficient work style as the individual will be responsible for recording live events, such as synchronous office hours for online students, and guest speakers or other ad hoc events. This position will report to the Manager of Media Design & Production, and will work closely with other members of the Media Design Team as well as other individuals at AI and with other University partners. In addition to developing media, this position will have a role in maintaining a professional studio environment that is efficient, welcoming, and can also be used as a self-serve studio, for individuals who have been trained on using the studio. Because of the focus on event-based recordings, this position may occasionally have responsibilities outside of normal business hours.

Note: This is a three-year, term-limited appointment with the possibility of renewal.
Collaborate with faculty and others on a course design team to strategize on incorporating multimedia and video components to support online and residential education initiatives
Contribute ideas and examples of media usage to inform course design choices
Provide expertise in the choice of video style
Contribute to process compliance, and process improvements
Contribute to quality control
Conceptualize, direct, create, and edit media of different styles including, but not limited to: lectures, screencasts, demonstrations, dramatizations, documentaries, tutorials, and webcasts.
Support faculty in offering “live office hours” via Zoom and other synchronous methods
Assist faculty using synchronous communication tools (like videoconferencing and chat) during "live office hours" by coordinating interactions with remote students
Stream selected live events such as on-campus seminars, guest speakers, and other events that would benefit online and residential learners
Write and edit scripts for video content as needed, either individually or as a member of a team
Produce media-rich course assets
Using appropriate techniques and effects, edit raw video, select and/or create music clips, design graphics and/or digital video effects in order to create a quality, creative, finished product
Ensure timely delivery of high-quality content
Provide expertise in streaming, webcasting, video production and editing where needed to support projects
Research technology innovations and methods to advance team awareness and knowledge
Maintain/improve studio space for use by fellow team members, and for self-serve by faculty
Develop/maintain studio documentation
Provide coaching to on-camera presenters
Provide support for presenters during lecture recording sessions including suggestions on delivery related to accessibility and descriptive audio of images and graphs
Evaluate lecture slides for legibility, graphic design, and conformance to program expectations
Flag copyright and accessibility issues
Assist with additional video related work and responsibilities as needed.
Assist with additional team-wide efforts as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, Filmmaking, Motion Graphics, or relevant experience in digital media production, broadcasting, or a closely related field
Demonstrated understanding of the principles, practices, techniques, technology and standards of videography and audio production
Experience operating production equipment, post-production equipment, and non-linear editing software
Experience with HD video workflows, storage, retrieval and archiving
Experience shooting on location as well as in-studio video
Ability to troubleshoot technical and logistical issues
Understanding of multiple delivery modes and formats for distributing video for diverse client needs
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities both independently and collaboratively
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within deadlines and competing priorities with strong attention to detail
Familiarity and comfort with Macintosh and Windows operating systems and software, and Google Suite tools
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work well in a diverse and collaborative environment
Master’s degree or higher and 3 years relevant experience in digital media production, broadcasting, or a closely related field
Significant experience editing with Final Cut Pro X
3-5 years working with non-linear digital video editing systems
Expertise creating motion graphics and designing digital video effects in programs such as Motion and After Effects
Expertise in audio production and using software such as Logic and ProTools
Experience working with green screens and ChromaKey technology
Experience with graphic design software applications
Advanced photographic knowledge and experience
Experience with streaming video solutions
Working knowledge of graphic design principles with ability to conceptualize compelling visuals to support multimedia project
Knowledge of online and blended learning instructional design principles
Experience working in higher education, particularly in roles supporting faculty
Interest in data science and computing
