Title: Full-time Instructional Designer

Date: August 2, 2019
Under the supervision of the Director of Educational Technology & Digital Learning, the Instructional Designer works with faculty to design, develop and implement course content in alignment with course learning objectives for online, blended and technology-enhanced courses. Maintains knowledge and promotes ongoing awareness of emerging technologies, changing patterns of usage and new innovative practices related to pedagogy and instructional design. Provides support to faculty and staff in adopting new instructional technologies; assists administrators with assessment of the instructional effectiveness of web-based courses and course materials; provides faculty with assistance in revising existing course materials; participates in faculty, staff, and student training and the development of training materials.
I. Provide support and training for faculty engaged in the college's Online Learning program including fully online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced classes Support the Online Course Development (OCD) process
Review newly developed online and hybrid courses for design, organization, and usability based on MCC-customized Quality Matters rubric.
Provide workshops and individual consultation to expand MCC faculty and staff expertise in the use of Blackboard as well as other instructional technologies.
Assist faculty to identify and evaluate technology-based resources for instruction.
Ensure continuous improvement and quality assurance of MCC online learning program by providing experienced online instructors with updated training
Create and maintain a repository of online resources pertaining to teaching and learning, instructional design, online course development, innovative practices, and assessment as related to instructional technology.
Research new and cutting-edge technological approaches and collaborate with faculty and the Director of Educational Technology & Digital Learning to pilot and implement these solutions. Support and expand educational technology initiatives such as iPads, pedagogical approaches using Blackboard's Ally UDL program, and other appropriate instructional design tools.
Collaborate with Director of Educational Technology & Digital Learning to develop and maintain proper technical and user documentation for each learning tool/technology in a consistent and structured manner. Promote effective learning strategies for online learning.
II. Coordinate to the Blackboard LMS with the MCC Technology
In partnership with the Technology Center, support the administration of Blackboard including system maintenance updates, management of Blackboard course shells, and associated student and faculty access.
Provide second tier online support for faculty and students in the use of Blackboard LMS
III. College Service and Partnerships
Participate in college-wide and statewide initiatives relevant to the use of instructional technology and online learning.
Participate in professional development days and other programs for full- and part-time faculty.
Participate in college governance and grant initiatives.
Perform other related duties as needed
IV. Work with faculty to embed outcomes assessment methods into instruction including the use of Blackboard Outcomes using instructional design principles.

Bachelor's degree in a field related to area of assignment;
With three (3) years experience and/or training involving area of assignment in the development of digital media materials for online and classroom instruction.
Experience in technology-based information design and content architecture.
Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and effective pedagogy.
Familiarity with a wide range of technology resources and their appropriate application to teaching and learning, including but not limited to learning management systems, iPads, classroom presentation media, courseware authoring systems, web development tools, streaming audio and video, podcasting, and conferencing applications.
Ability to work effectively with all levels of faculty, staff, clients and product/service provider representatives.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and also independently.
Familiarity with Blackboard Learn and Quality Matters.
Location: Bedford campus with frequent travel to the Lowell campus plus other sites as needed
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
