The New York Proton Center is recruiting for the Chief Therapist to join the clinical team. The Chief Therapist, as a member of the therapist team, coordinates day-to-day activities of the radiation therapists and performs technical and supervisory duties in the Radiation Therapy Department, enforcing established departmental and hospital policies and procedures in order to provide high quality and efficient patient care. The individual will be required to demonstrate leadership and the ability to make decisions and solve problems as they arise. This individual will be responsible for the implementation and continuous review of clinical practice standards as relates to proton beam treatment delivery. In addition, the Chief Therapist will perform radiation therapy duties and procedures as staffing and workload dictates.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide leadership to the radiation therapy staff, operation of radiation therapy and imaging equipment and technical aspects of treatment, simulation and imaging. This includes proton treatment systems and multiple imaging platforms (CT, MR, PET)
Responsible for recommending hiring, performance evaluations and disciplinary actions in coordination with the Clinic Manager. Assign workload, coordinate instruction of radiation therapy trainee, support development and implementation of programs, quality assurance, patient safety, regulatory and compliance oversight, and technology assessment
Supervise Radiation Therapists and Radiation Therapy Techs
Track, record, and compile all clinical research data of patients following departmental and IRB policies
Discuss technical problems with faculty and staff to suggest corrections and/or solutions.
Develop weekly and rotational schedules for staff as well as weekly call schedules
Facilitate teamwork, staff development and staff satisfaction through planned group processes
Perform therapist duties and other duties as assigned.
Assure that radiation safety measures for patients and personnel are observed
Comply with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
Perform other job-related duties, as assigned
Must be a graduate of a JCERT accredited program in radiation therapy or a suitable equivalent
BS Degree in Radiation Therapy or a related health science field, preferred
License and Certification:
Must be certified and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiation therapy
Must be licensed by the New York State Department of Health as a radiologic technologist
Must be certified in Basic Life Support/ CPR
Three to five year’s recent experience with proton radiation therapy with demonstrated leadership skills is required
Previous experience in proton radiation therapy, required
Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and TPS, such as Aria and Eclipse, is preferred
Varying assigned shift work of 8 hours per day during operational hours which may range from 5 AM until 11 PM
Occasional overtime as needed
Working in a patient care environment

Demonstrate the necessary visual and auditory acuity to visually monitor patients on closed circuit television and verbally communicate with them on an intercom system
Read from a distance of 5 -6 feet

Distinguish between colors for patient markings, chart diagrams, and safety lights.
Enter information and data into a computer using a keyboard
Lifting equipment and patients in excess of 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the work day
Walks and stands for the majority of the work day
Reaches for objects above shoulder level
