The incumbent will support the mission of the Circulation Department by providing library services to patrons in an efficient and courteous manner.
Specific duties include: staffing the Check-Out and Digital Media service points; using automated systems to perform functions such as processing loans, renewals, returns, and payment of library fees; providing support to library patrons needing basic research help; assisting patrons with library technology and equipment; registering patrons for library services; opening or closing and patrolling the building; monitoring the exit control theft prevention system; using the appropriate classification system to perform stacks maintenance; managing lost and found items; ordering supplies for the department; maintaining printers and copiers; and performing other duties as assigned, including committee work.
There are two positions available. The work schedule for one position is Sunday - Thursday 4:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. The schedule for the second position is Tuesday – Saturday 10 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Hours are subject to change to reflect changes in library hours & staffing needs.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position.
Must have experience in a customer service environment serving a diverse population, with preference given to experience in a library' s circulation or media department.
Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills;
Ability to provide guidance and instructions to student assistants and to organize work to meet conflicting demands while maintaining careful attention to detail;
Demonstrated ability to work independently, to work cooperatively on a team, and to exercise initiative in applying rules, procedures and instructions.
Must be proficient in using library technology, software and databases.
