The Education Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor whose professional and research expertise lies in the area of Learning Sciences/Technology Education. The department is particularly interested in candidates whose research agendas explore technology-supported learning environments in ways that clearly focus on improving educational opportunity for non-dominant youth in and/or out of school. Possible areas of specialization include (but are not limited to) digital literacies, collaborative and inquiry learning, mobile learning, student populations underserved by technology, youth civic engagement with technology, technology and critical media education, or technology and makerspaces. Candidates' scholarship should demonstrate an awareness of societal challenges as well as the potential of technology to address them.
We seek scholars with evidence of a promising research program and the capacity to develop externally funded research grants, projects, and research partnerships. The successful candidate should be able to teach across the department's programs (Undergraduate Minor, Master's/Teaching Credential, and Ph.D.), advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service.
RANK: Assistant Professor [tenure track]
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (9-month) basis.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate or equivalent foreign degree in the Learning Sciences, Education, or Psychology, or closely related fields, with a research focus on Technology in Education, Digital Media, or other technology-related research topics. Degree expected to be conferred by June 30, 2020.
POSITION AVAILABLE: July 1, 2020, with academic year beginning September 2020. Degree requirements must be completed by June 30, 2020 for employment beyond that date.
