The Cinema and Media Arts major is housed in the Department of Communication and Design Arts. The position involves a twelve-month staff appointment with “administrative faculty status,” meaning that the person may attend faculty meetings (without voting privileges) and is exempt from service on faculty committees.

The person who holds this position:
• is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the studio and technology in the cinema major
• teaches an approximately half-time load in the program, including classes such as Audio Concepts and Production, Video/Cinema Concepts, Digital Production Techniques in Journalism and Public Relations, Television Studio Production, Advanced Video Production, and Cinema and Media Arts Practicum
• serves as executive producer of various productions (e.g., “Raven Watch”) and the Flagship Films Fellowship program
• hires and oversees a staff of several students who work on various tasks and productions under the auspices of the Black Bird Media Lab (formerly Covenant Productions)
• co-directs the program’s Filmmakers Camp each summer
• manages the program’s studio and field gear, with particular focus on keeping the equipment maintained and operational and arranging for the gear to be used by students on their projects
• has a role in client relations, producing and directing, camera operation, post production, distribution and billing when projects are done for internal and external clients
• maintains high academic and production standards in mentoring students on their path to becoming professionals
• handles various other responsibilities as situations and needs dictate
