Hazard Community & Technical College invites applications for the position of Instructional Designer. The Instructional Technologies Coordinator provides expertise and support in applying instructional design methodologies to the development, implementation, and evaluation of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses, including competency-based instruction. The Instructional Technologies Coordinator works collaboratively with college faculty providing support and training; as well as students who take online courses. The Instructional Technologies Coordinator will assist with content development utilizing multi-media instructional design principles, assessments, and best practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Provide faculty support in the development and design of quality online courses including materials and resources as well as use of the LMS and other online technologies.
Provide expertise, technical support, and training (in course development, pedagogical instruction, best practices, technology use, competency-based education, and other related topics) to subject matter experts, faculty, staff, and students who are participating in the development and/or deployment of online classes, hybrid classes, or face-to-face classes, where applicable.
Provide training for and ensures compliance with ADA, licensing, copyright laws, and regulations, across digital media editors/software such as Adobe, Articulate, Camtasia, PowerPoint, YouTube, etc.
Manage the quality assurance process following the Blackboard Exemplary Rubric (this includes course and faculty certification).
Revise and manage the new online faculty orientation to ensure faculty who teach online are technically apt and understand course management expectations.
Conduct regular communication with online students to provide information, resources, and supports.
Review and manage the export/import reporting with students who take non-HCTC courses.
Develop resources to that support faculty and students.
Assist with overall evaluation, review, and scheduling of online classes.
Manage processes for the design, evaluation, and assessment of student learning outcomes.
Occasional travel to off campus site to provide faculty/student support.
Obtain up-to-date skills with the latest industry tools and trends in online education.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Instructional Design, Distance Education, or related field and two years' experience in Higher Education or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Effective organizational planning, communication, and interpersonal skills;
Knowledge of adult learning theory, assessment and evaluation, integrated software skills, and experience with Microsoft applications;
Experience in usage of a learning management system such as Blackboard (both student and administrator use), knowledge of instructional design methodologies, and competency-based education.
At least two years' work experience to include instructional design, curriculum development, web development, and/or content development.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public;
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain, demonstrate, facilitate and model the essential functions of the job to ensure quality customer service;
