The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in the Swenson College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth seeks term Instructors or Assistant Professors that may be part- or full-time to teach during the 2020-2021 academic year (8/24/20-5/23/21). This is not a tenure-track appointment. It is a limited appointment for up to one year, with possible extension as needed by the department. Job duties and responsibilities include teaching courses in one or more of the following areas: industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, human factors/ergonomics, system safety and/or environmental health & safety, possibly online or via interactive television.
Required Qualifications: Required academic qualifications to be eligible for hire at the Instructor level is a Master’s degree in engineering, technical or business field from a regionally accredited university; and training or teaching experience in a corporate or academic setting (examples include, but are not limited to, teaching assistant, guest lecturer, workshop/seminar presenter, and corporate trainer). Required academic qualifications to be eligible for hire at the Assistant Professor level is an earned doctorate degree from a regionally accredited university in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering (or closely related field), and/or environmental health & safety; and training or teaching experience in a corporate or academic setting (examples include, but are not limited to, teaching assistant, guest lecturer, workshop/seminar presenter, and corporate trainer).
Preferred Qualifications (at either rank): an earned doctorate degree from a regionally accredited university in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, and/or environmental health & safety; industrial experience in an engineering field; experience teaching engineering courses at the college/university level, including labs; ability to support the University's commitment to equity and diversity; ability to contribute to multiple degree programs; demonstrated ability to teach courses from some of the following areas: Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, System Dynamics, Control Systems, Environmental Health & Safety, Kinematics & Mechatronics, Robotics, Finite Element Analysis, CAD/CAM, Systems Integration, Facilities Planning and Simulation, Lean Production Management, Operations Research, Machine Design, and Senior Design; licensed professional engineer; and excellent verbal communication skills.
