Simpson University, Department of Communication, seeks a highly motivated and energetic candidate to fill the position of Assistant Professor of Communication with an emphasis in the design and technical skills related to Digital Media. The University is seeking a professional who shares our excitement for teaching and learning in a Christ-honoring student-centered, interactive learning environment. The ideal candidate must possess mastery of the Adobe Suite package, including InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere, along with any other technology required to produce content directly related to the production of Digital Media. The ability to create / write code is a critical requirement.
Communication is both a liberal art and a professional discipline. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach in and refine the Digital Media program as well as participate and teach in other areas of the department, serve as an academic advisor, participate in student recruitment and orientation activities, serve on university committees, as well as engage in ongoing professional development, research, and scholarship.
Teaching assignment will cover our Digital Media courses as well as teaching communication in general education and courses in writing for multiple media platforms or other areas of expertise. The successful candidate will be creative with teaching strategies in the classroom including participatory exercises, experiential assignments, peer-to-peer learning, research methodologies, and active engagement with student’s lives.
A Master’s degree in Communication or closely related field is required, a doctorate or other appropriate terminal degree is preferred. Candidates with teaching abilities, competency in program assessment, women and minorities, and those with professional experience will be given preference. A personal relationship with Jesus, a vibrant Christian faith, and a commitment to Christian community; capable of sharing and engaging in conversations about Christ.
