The Instructor and director of field education provides oversight for student practicum experiences. Working closely with the Social Work Program Director, the successful candidate must demonstrate a student-centered professional focus, a strong commitment to social work education, experience in agency based social work, and an understanding of the role of the BSW level practitioner. The Instructor/field director must utilize technology for record maintenance as well as for conducting virtual meetings. In addition, the occupant of this position will teach undergraduate social work classes through interactive television, Zoom, and web technologies. The Instructor/field director is expected to engage in university, college, department and community service.
Work with agency representatives to establish student placement criteria and ensure that students receive appropriate learning experiences within a professional social service agency
Oversee field student background screening and organize and preserve confidential records
Monitor student field placements that entail performance evaluations, communications with agency personnel, and field orientations for students and agency staff
Maintain contact with field placements through face to face visits, phone, Zoom, social media, and other means
Travel to field sites to maintain contact with field settings and monitor student learning and field setting effectiveness
Review agency field placement contracts and visit placement sites in person as well as virtually
In collaboration with social work faculty and the department chair, develop and implement field policies and procedures that include the timely and accurate preparation and updating of instructional materials
Electronically maintain records to ensure the consistent monitoring of field placements in compliance with program and agency procedures
Teach undergraduate field practicum and senior seminar social work courses and other classes as needed through face to face and distance learning methodologies
Minimum Education Requirements:
Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:
Minimum of two years full-time post-MSW direct practice experience
Demonstrated MSW experience with Western Kentucky social service agencies preferred.
