Business Development Manager - Sports & Live Events North America

The Business Development Manager (BDM) for Sports & Live Events (SLE) is a full-time role, reporting to the VP of Sports & Live Events - Global. The SLE BDM – defines long-term strategic goals related to Sales and Marketing efforts within the sports and live events community, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, and works with the sales team to negotiate and close business deals.


A key performance metric for the role is the long-term growth of the opportunity pipeline while simultaneously helping Ross to add more value to our customers’ experience.  To achieve success, you must be able to generate new opportunities through various methods, including but not limited to event participation, channel partner engagement, email out-reach, online demos, on site customer visits, and trade shows. You will interact with the Ross sales team to drive the opportunity from creating solution fit with the end user and navigating the decision making and acceptance process.

Some of the things you will work on:

  • Develop, execute, and manage sales efforts for Ross Video’s Solutions for the Sports & Live Event vertical markets within North America.
  • Use your passion for technology and workflow for studio, to lead Ross R&D initiatives to improve solution fit.
  • Work directly with Ross Corporate Marketing, to develop focused marketing material for web, press, presentations, etc.
  • Provide sales support to the North American sales team.
  • Meet or exceed monthly and annual orders targets.
  • Build relationships with prospects and customers by calling on customer facilities either directly or in conjunction with Regional Sales Managers to promote Ross Production Workflow Solutions.
  • Leverage existing relationships with clients and resellers to promote Ross Solutions.
  • Seek out, develop, and maintain relationships with complementary third-party technologies and solutions.
  • Deliver presentations to prospects, clients, and partners.
  • Facilitate or produce Ross product demonstrations at both customer sites and via webinar.
  • Work in tandem with the various product specialist(s) to deliver outstanding high-level demonstrations to develop the best sales strategy for each opportunity.
  • Advise and assist end users, re-sellers, and system integrators concerning sales and purchase of Ross Solutions for the Sports & Live Events market. 
  • Assist with tenders and RFP/RFQ responses.
  • Monitor and evaluate competitive offerings in the Sports & Live Events market (product features and marketing activities).
  • Actively work with Product Marketing Teams to tailor messaging and implement marketing strategies specific to Sports & Live Event customers in North America.
  • Facilitate Ross training events, and other user activities in cooperation with other Ross stakeholders.
  • Participate in partner events, and trade association meetings.
  • Develop and maintain sales forecasting with the sales team to achieve sales goals.
  • Perform market analyses to determine customer needs.
  • Prepare periodic sales reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion.
  • Assist in resolution of customer complaints regarding equipment, supplies, and services.
  • Ensure that the sales and marketing for Ross Solutions for Sports & Live Events follow the Ross Video Code of Ethics.

You should have:

  • Business degree/diploma and/or equivalent experience
  • Technology Leadership
  • Production systems design, engineering, or operational workflow knowledge
  • Experience with the buying or selling process for live production.
  • Proven ability to write convincing, concise, and professional marketing collateral and business correspondence.
  • Strong management skills
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills
  • Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint expertise
  • Familiarity with software-based products and maintenance plans
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to travel up to 60% of the time.

Bonus points if you have the following:

  • Sports & Live Events end user contacts and knowledge
  • Experience with Ross products and solutions
