Infrastructure Automation Engineer

Lawo, Inc
Remote

We seek a talented and experienced system engineer focusing on infrastructure automation to join our team, delivering cutting-edge broadcast environments. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting and managing our deployments, focusing on SMPTE ST 2110-based signal distribution and utilizing COTS-based (Commercial Off-the-Shelf) servers for software-based signal processing. The Infrastructure Automation Engineer will collaborate with multiple engineering teams, ensuring smooth and efficient deployments of our solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Management & Automation:
    • Manage and automate the deployment tools and configurations leveraging COTS servers.
    • Maintain and scale our lab infrastructure for SMPTE ST 2110 signal distribution, ensuring minimal downtime and high availability, replicating customer demands.
    • Implement CI/CD pipelines for broadcast systems’ software build, system testing, and deployment.
  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
    • Monitor the health of systems, servers, and network connections to ensure the reliable delivery of broadcast signals.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across all infrastructure layers (hardware, network, software).
  • Collaboration:
    • Collaborate closely with other engineering teams to ensure a smooth integration of system deployments.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • Optimize the performance of COTS-based servers and networks for efficient software-based signal processing and distribution.
    • Conduct system performance tests and deploy necessary optimizations to meet broadcast environments’ demanding throughput and latency requirements.
  • Documentation & Best Practices:
    • Create and maintain system documentation, including procedures for software deployments, updates, and incident management.
    • Enforce and promote best practices in infrastructure management, security, and automation within the organization.
  • Security:
    • Implement and enforce security measures within the broadcast environments, ensuring signal integrity, data flow, and infrastructure protection.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and security protocols for broadcast signal distribution and processing.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven Experience:
    • 3+ years in an automation role focusing on broadcast environments or similar complex systems involving signal distribution over multicast.
    • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with SMPTE ST 2110 standards for professional media over IP networks.
    • Experience with software-based signal processing, including tools and software used in broadcast environments.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet).
    • CI/CD pipelines and version control systems (e.g., Git, Jenkins).
    • Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Go, Bash, or Ruby).
    • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Containerd Kubernetes).
    • Knowledge of COTS-based servers and server management (e.g., Dell, HP, Supermicro).
    • Experience with networking protocols related to broadcast (e.g., multicast, PTP, RTP).
  • Operating Systems & Tools:
    • Expertise with Linux-based operating systems (e.g., Debian, Red Hat).
    • Understanding of broadcast network architecture, including switching, routing, and stream management.
    • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios).
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in high-pressure, real-time environments.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional teams.
    • Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving technologies and challenges in the broadcast space.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with additional broadcast standards and practices (e.g., AES67, NMOS, JT-NM).
  • Experience with virtualized or cloud-based environments in a media context (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
  • Background in broadcast signal integrity testing and compliance (e.g., compliance with AES67 or SMPTE standards).

Why Work With Us?

  • Opportunity to work on innovative technologies in the broadcast industry.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Dynamic and collaborative work environment with opportunities for growth and learning.
  • Be part of a passionate and forward-thinking team shaping the future of broadcast signal distribution.
